I got to contribute to this wonderful collection of resolutions by Semitic boldface names in Tablet. My piece was about coffee. I recently became disillusioned with Nespresso when my machine broke. Since they use proprietary screws, no local handyperson can repair their machines or procure the parts necessary to do so. Meanwhile, the company itself doesn’t repair older machines. Instead, they tell you to throw them out and offer a discount on new ones. I was already a self-hating Nespresso drinker, as their pods, despite promises to the contrary, are still not recyclable. This was the nail in the capsule. In tandem with my new waste-less at home brewing, I’ve given up paper cups. If I need a coffee I ought to get it somewhere that is nice enough to serve it in a glass. Coffee tastes 73% better in a glass anyways.
• My art show got a lovely write up in Now Magazine. You still have a month to go see it, and buy some discount kitsch.
• I’ve been covering TIFF for Maclean’s mag. It’s been fun. But I wish all the movie stars would go home now.
