Here’s the full release:

For Immediate Release:

An original feature film developed by writer Sarah Lazarovic and producer Luke
Bryant through the NSI Features First program.

Vancouver, BC (July 16, 2012) – Mary Anne Waterhouse, producer at Quadrant Motion Pictures, announced today that the company has optioned the rights to writer Sarah Lazarovic’s charming first feature film THE TEPLITSKYS ARE FURIOUS, previously developed through the National Screen Institute’s Features First program. Noted Waterhouse: “THE TEPLITSKYS ARE FURIOUS is an absolute treat of a film. Sarah Lazarovic is a hugely talented and funny writer. The story she has crafted has real depth of character, humour and it’s always entertaining. Tackling the struggles of aging with humour and tenderness, it’s bound to resonate with audiences across Canada. “With Quadrant, we’ve found the perfect partner to help bring TEPLITSKYS to life. They’ve got an amazing track record producing exceptional independent Canadian films. We couldn’t be more thrilled,” said writer Sarah Lazarovic.

The deal was negotiated by Quadrant Motion Pictures’ Mary Anne Waterhouse, and Rena Zimmerman with Great North Artists Management on behalf of the filmmakers.

Film Synopsis:

Fastidious SAM TEPLITSKY leads a meticulously ordered life as a suburban dermatologist/power-walking enthusiast. But his world is thrown into total disarray when HELEN, his wife of thirty-five years, leaves him abruptly. Unable to cope, Sam unwittingly lashes out at all who cross his path – making matters in his professional and personal life much worse. Hoping an intervention will help, his daughter LIV insists he move in with her and her boyfriend in the city. But close quarters, conflicting lifestyles and meddlesome ways don’t make Sam or Liv any happier. Pushed to the limits, Sam and his family find themselves spiraling towards perilous yet highly comedic dysfunctionality.

The Teplitskys Are Furious is a dramatic comedy that explores the question of whether you’re ever too old to change who you are.

Project History:

Sarah Lazarovic began writing The Teplitskys Are Furious in 2009, while studying under screenwriter Nika Rylski. In August 2010, the screenplay was chosen as a semifinalist for participation in the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. In November 2010, Sarah received a Praxis Screenwriters Fellowship for the project. In December 2010, she and producer Luke Bryant were accepted into the prestigious NSI Features First program. Concurrently, the project was nominated for the Writers Guild of Canada Jim Burt Prize.
